About This Project
Murphy Surveys UK Ltd was requested to carry out a Non-destructive Testing survey on behalf of private owner. The investigation was undertaken to locate and map the route of any chimney flues within the property from the ground floor to the 2nd floor.Survey Requirements
On each fireplace of the property a series of single scan were surveyed at regular spacing with the Hilti PS1000 X-Scan in order to assess the position of the chimney flue from ground floor to the second floor of the house.
Survey Specifications
Ground Penetrating RADAR is one of the most common methods used to determine the presence of voids within a structure. It is a Non-destructive techniques method which allows us to assess the wall conditions without any intrusive work. And so to map the route of any chimney flues.
An NDT survey is based on a High Frequency Impulse Radar method (HFIR). This method allows to resolve anomalies within the material below the surface. Electro-magnetic energy in the form of radio waves is sent into the surface via a transmitting antenna. The energy propagates through the different materials encountered as a function of their electrical properties, which is in turn function of their physical and chemical properties.
The Hilti scanner PS1000 has predefined survey mode. Single image scan can be surveyed perpendicularly to the flue direction. The recorded data were post-processed in the office for further evaluation and analysis.
